水系構造と流域動態に基づく水・土砂流出構構と災害環境に関する研究

研究概要

石狩川、沙流川、一ツ瀬川などを対象として、流域の規模と特性、気象および地形・地質特性、災害環境と土地利用の変遷について調査分析し、粗大粒径だけでなく微細粒径の土砂についても土砂収支を解析した。河口付近や河川下流部への流出土砂と海岸の潮流および風とのインタラクションも解析した。さらに、利尻島、沖縄など、地質、気象および土地利用において特殊な環境下にある流域においても、土砂流出動態と流出速度を解析した。水・土砂流出に伴う水辺域の生態環境への影響についての検討も行った。その結果、流域面積と勾配と降雨量とによって、土砂の滞留時間と滞留規模(または輸送速度)がオーダーで異なり、微細土砂およびその流出比率も変化することが分かった。一方、土砂動態の開水路実験によってモデル化も行った。水・土砂の流出規模と頻度から水辺生態系への影響も定量化した。このような結果から、水系規模での水・土砂流出予測モデルが構築された。これらの結果を公表するため、札幌において国際ワークショップを開催し、オーストラリア、ニュージーランド、アメリカ、中国、韓国、タイなどの東南アジア諸国での研究成果も合わせて公表し、将来の環太平洋地域での共同研究と災害防除の国際拠点構築に貢献した。また、中国においても、将来の共同研究構想を検討するためのワークショップを開催した。研究結果を普及するため単行本を企画し、本研究終了後に発刊する予定である。
変動する地球環境のもとで自然災害といかにつきあうかという課題は人類が地球表面で生存し続ける限り突きつけられる宿命にある。本研究では、流域における土砂災害の予知・予測、軽減・修復という立場から、河道(床)や斜面といった場だけではなく、これらを繋いだ流域とその骨格にあたる水系構造の特徴から土砂生産-滞留-流送-沈殿という一連の土砂動態を明らかにした。
