研究概要

本研究課題の目的は、スカンジナヴィア北部とスヴァールバル島に設置されている世界で第一級の欧州非干渉散乱(EISCAT)レーダーを中心に用いて、極冠域からオーロラ帯、サブオーロラ帯にまでいたる広い領域にまたがった実験観測を行い、太陽風、磁気圏から電離圏、熱圏、中間圏における物理・化学課程の総合的研究を行うことにある。平成8年度EISCAT科学協会に正式加盟した日本は、他の加盟国(英、仏、独、ノルウェー、スウェーデン、フィンランド)と同じく独自のレーダー使用時間を有し、日本独自の実験研究を実施してきている。この特別実験実施のための情報の収集および経験の蓄積、EISCATレーダーにより取得されたデータの収集、そのデータ解析のためのソフトウエアの整備、およびそれらの共同研究者への公開も進めている。
今年度は、2000年7月にESRにてイオン加熱に伴うIS異常スペクトルの解明のための特別実験、9月にトロムソにおいて電離圏加熱装置を用いた電離圏加熱実験、11月から12月にかけて、宇宙研ロケット実験に呼応した、ESRおよびEISCAT VHFレーダーを用いた特別実験などを実施した。これらを通して、上記目的の解明のために研究を進めている。また、EISCATレーダーにより取得されたデータ(raw data)コピーのために随時EISCATのデータセンターであるトロムソサイトに人員を派遣している。そして、EISCATレーダーとの同時観測によるオーロラ降下粒子エネルギースペクトルの研究のために、2001年2月に光学観測装置(4波長フォトメーター)をEISCATトロムソサイトにおいて設置した。
