太陽風-地球磁気圏相互作用によるエネルギーの侵入・結合・変換過程の研究

研究概要

シベリア、日本、東南アジア、オーストラリアの環太平洋域磁気子午線沿いの多点と南米、西アジア経度の隔った磁気赤道沿いの多点とを組織的に組み合わせた全地球的規模の地上観測網を用い、特に、(1)太陽風-地球磁気圏相互作用により発生する電磁場擾乱と粒子エネルギーの、極冠域、磁気圏境界領域、または、磁気圏尾から内部磁気圏を通り磁気赤道域まで達するその輸送・侵入過程、(2)これらの擾乱が磁気赤道電離層に達するまでの間に、高度80km以上の地球大気遷移圏(電離圏、熱圏)の擾乱にどのように結合・変換されていくのかその機構と過程、さらに(3)赤道ジェット電流とどのように結合しているのかを解明するために、グローバルな電磁気的観測手法を用いた学術調査をすることが平成12年度の目的であった。
平成12年度の学術調査は以下のように実施され、当初の目的の成果を上げることができた。
(1)ロシアのシベリア地域(6地点)では、極域でのオーロラや電磁気擾乱に伴うエネルギーやプラズマ粒子の流入・輸送・変換過程を解明するために、低周波電磁波動、オーロラの光学観測による荷電粒子等の総合的な同時観測が実施された。
(2)中低緯度に位置する国内(4地点)、台湾、パプァ・ニューギニア、インドネシア、オーストラリア(8地点)における電磁気変動観測は定常的に継続するとともに、中国、韓国に新たな観測点を追加し、地下の電磁気構造やSq地磁気変化と中層大気風との関連性についての観測研究を遂行するための現地調査が行なわれた。
(3)西太平洋域のフィリピンのセブ島とダバオ、ミクロネシア諸島のポンペイ、ヤップ、コロール、グアム、ベトナムのバクリューの磁気赤道地域においては、赤道ジェット電流や地球大気遷移圏における結合過程を調べるために、新たな磁力計の設置やそのための現地調査が実施された。
(4)アジア半球と反対半球に位置する南米磁気赤道域のブラジル(サンタマリア、ユーゼビオ)、ペルー(アンコン、カニエテ、グアダルーペ)、トリニダード(トリニダードトバゴ)では、グローバルな電磁気変動や高エネルギー粒子環境変動の定常観測をするための磁力計やイメージングリオメータの設置、またそのための現地調査が実施された。
(5)これらの海外の観測点維持・管理は現地研究者もしくは協力者の好意によって行われる部分も多々あるが、観測補助のための謝金などの必要最低限の経費は日本側が負担した。
(6)本研究に関わる地磁気・オーロラ・衛星等のデータを効率よく収集するために、2000年10月に札幌で催されたS-RAMP国際会議に研究者を派遣し、外国との地上観測網や人工衛星計画との組織的な共同観測のための打ち合わせや、データ収集・交換を積極的に進めることによって成果を上げることができた。
