レーザー加熱による高分子材料の延伸・熱処理で発現する高次構造と力学特性について

研究概要

平成13年度においては、微小な張力を加えた繊維を一定速度で移動させた状態で、繊維に連続炭酸ガスレーザーを照射すると、数千から数万倍の延伸倍率にまで繊維は延伸され、容易に繊維の微細化が可能であることを見いだした。このレーザー加熱延伸法は、これまでにポリ(エチレンテレフタレート)(PET)、ナイロン6およびイソタクトポリプロピレン(it-PP)繊維に適用され、2回にわけて処理すると繊維径2μm以下の超極細繊維を得ることができる。また、繊維軸方向に配向した微結晶の存在が、広角X線写真から確認できる。得られた超極細繊維の走査型電子顕微鏡写真からは、延伸繊維の表面にはレーザーアブレーションによる繊維表面の劣化は認められず、繊維径および繊維表面は均一である
極細繊維の製法としては、直接紡糸法、多成分紡糸法および特殊紡糸法あり、これらの極めて特殊な手法でのみ、超極細繊維が作製されてきた。これらの技術では、極細化は限られた繊維にのみ可能であり、その応用範囲も限定されていた。一方、レーザー加熱法による繊維の極細化は、一般的な分子量を有するポリマーに適用でき、結晶性高分子、非晶性高分子や耐熱性高分子などあらゆる繊維の極細化が可能となり、新たな作製法として期待される。今後、延伸条件をさらに検討すれば、サブミクロンオーダーの超極細繊維の作製も可能となり、ナノマテリアルとしてナノテクノロジーへの応用展開も考えられる。なお、レーザー加熱法による繊維の極細化に関する3件の特許を出願中である。
