芳香族結晶の動的核偏極による偏極固体陽子標的の開発

研究概要

1 偏極固体陽子標的
偏極固体陽子標的は原子核・素粒子の構造とその間に働く力を研究する上で重要な実験装置である。従来、偏極固体陽子標的は高磁場低温の条件下でのみ可能とされてきたが、液体窒素温度、3キロガウスという高温低磁場中で動作する標的を製作するのが本研究の目的であり、革新的な開発である。
2 偏極装置の開発
本年度は、常温で0.2%の偏極を得た昨年度の成果を発展させ、さらに偏極度を上げる開発を行った。
(1)液体窒素による標的冷却システムの製作
(2)液体窒素温度における陽子偏極のテスト実験と、偏極装置の動作条件の最適化
(3)偏極度の絶対値測定と較正
(4)偏極のビルドアップ(偏極上昇)時間と緩和時間の測定
3 現在の開発結果
液体窒素温度下で18.4±3.9%という非常に大きな偏極度が得られた。これは、標的の実用化を可能にする画期的な成果である。
また、8.2±0.5分という短いビルドアップ時間と、21±3時間という非常に長い緩和時間が得られた。この結果は標的を短時間で偏極させることができること、および偏極が長時間に渡って持続することを示しており、この標的システムが実用に適しているという開発当初の予想を裏付けるものである。
最終目標である標的にビームを照射する散乱実験を実際に行うことが次の目標であり、現在必要な検出器の製作を含めた実験計画を進めている。
