火星隕石中の衝撃斜長石ガラス(マスケリナイト)の鉱物学的特性と形成史の研究

研究概要

本年度は、衝撃を受けた斜長石を含む隕石サンプル(火星隕石、月隕石、HED隕石)を用いて以下の分析を行った。1.光学的性質分析(デジタルカメラ付き偏光顕微鏡):斜長石の組織の特徴、バイレフリンジェンスの有無。2.化学組成分析(エレクトロンマイクロプローブ、走査型、透過型電子顕微鏡):エレクトロンマイクロプローブによるライン分析、元素マッピングによる2次元組成分布。3.分光分析(顕微ラマンスペクトロメーター):結晶質、非晶質の違いによるスペクトルの差の測定。4.結晶構造解析(透過型電子顕微鏡、放射光による微小領域X線回折):マイクロメーター、ナノメーターオーダーでのマスケリナイトの構造を分析。その結果、火星隕石中に含まれる衝撃変成斜長石ガラス(マスケリナイト)は、光学的、分光的、結晶構造的に見て、いずれも非晶質であるが、元々のマグマ起源で斜長石が結晶化した際の化学的ゾーニングを残していることが明らかになった。また、月隕石に含まれる同種のマスケリナイトも火星隕石中のものと同様の性質を示すが、溶融被膜に接した場所では結晶質に戻っているので(火星隕石中のマスケリナイトにはそのような部分は見られない)、火星隕石中のマスケリナイトよりも衝撃による結晶構造の乱れの程度が小さかったものと考えられる。小惑星起源と考えられるHED隕石では、部分的に結晶質の部分を残している箇所が見られるため、火星隕石・月隕石に比べて衝撃の度合いがさらに小さかったものと推測される。このように各隕石に含まれる衝撃変成斜長石から示唆される衝撃の度合いは、母天体の大きさに対応している。これらの研究のうち、1.と2.の火星隕石に関しては、アメリカの火星隕石研究者(ヒューストンNASAジョンソン宇宙センター、シカゴフィールド自然史博物館)を訪れ、分析・議論をした結果が反映されている。
