非古典的電子状態をもつ遷移金属クラスターに基づく分子性磁性伝導体の開発

研究概要	平成12年度は交付申請書に記載した研究目的・研究実施計画に沿って、新規遷移金属クラスターの足がかりとなる重要な中間体の合成に力を入れた。具体的には酸素で架橋された鉄の三核錯体、鉄と硫黄がキュバン型の核を成すキュバン型ジチオレート錯体、マンガン12核錯体など既報の遷移金属クラスターの骨格を元に、どのくらいまで化学的修飾が可能で、そうした場合反応性や安定性が元の化合物とどのように変わってくるかといったことを、特に溶液中での酸化還元挙動に注目しながら調べた。こうした結果、同じような酸化還元挙動を示すクラスターでも配位子や遷移金属の種類によってその酸化部位は異なり、必ずしも可逆な多段階の酸化還元挙動を示すというだけでは、目的に合わないことも判明した。また溶液中で安定な化学種として存在しても、複数の関連クラスターとの間に化学平衡があり、結晶として析出させると、予想とは異なった物質として得られてくる例もあることがわかった。こうした中から本来目指していた物質とは異なりながらも、目的の物性には近い特質をもった思いがけない新物質が得られてくることがしばしばあった。本研究との関連性を鑑みても、これはこれで研究する価値と必要性を感じた。従ってそうした新物質を更に詳しく研究するため、磁場下での輸送現象などに関する測定も行い、当初の研究計画では平成14年度の予定になっていた実験にも少し立ち入ることができた。
