研究概要

本研究は、アジア環太平洋地域における風土病(地域に共通した疾病)の発症予防と治療の為に、先端生命科学の分野で研究を重点的に速やかに展開させるべく、研究プロジェクトについての調査研究と共同研究を計画する。この為に、アジア環太平洋地域の国際分子生物学ネットワーク(A-IMBN)の代表的研究者との情報の交換、研究試料の収集と共用、研究者交流を頻繁に行い、効率的かつ経済的に遂行する。また、日本の先導的役割がアジア環太平洋諸国を始め欧米諸国からも既に強く求められ、日本の研究者が、先端生命科学の分野で、アジア環太平洋地域において貢献することは、21世紀の日本の国益に合致する。
本年度は下記のテーマについて班員が国内外での研究調査を開始した。
1.ゲノム情報に基ずく疾患細胞
2.幹細胞操作による疾病治療
3.疾患臓器の再生
4.発症予防に向けた新しい免疫制御法
5.ゲノム情報に基ずく細胞治療と創薬
また本研究は、未来思考型の先端生命科学の展開に向けた調査研究と同時に、外国研究者も参加した新しい研究システムを構築する為に、下記の様なA-IMBNを核とした研究者の交流を行い、その中から共同研究を計画した。
1.研究調査、研究交流を目的として、平成12年9月にオーストラリアのブリスベンで国際細胞生物学会との共催で国際会議を行った。さらに、平成13年3月には、東京で国際シンポジウム(Life Science Frontiers in the New Century:Scientists in Asia and the Pacific Rim)を開催した。500人以上の参加があり、大変に好評であった。それと同時に、将来の本格的国際共同研究の為の基盤作りと情報ネットワークの整備を進めた。
2.班員とシンガポール分子細胞生物学研究所の研究者の相互交流が行われ、共同研究の計画が立案された。
