マルチコアとGPUにおけるエナジーアウェアなプログラミングモデルと環境の研究

研究概要

今年度は次の3テーマに焦点を当てた。
1)エナジーアウェアなプログラミングモデルと環境の改良
昨年度の研究に基づき、コードレット・プログラミング・モデルと下位のランタイムの検討作業を継続した。ネットワーク・フロー理論に着想を得て、きめ細かい、データの局所性志向の方法論を提案した。その実験からは、我々の方法が68.1%までパフォーマンスを向上させ、現在のコードレット・スケジューリングと比較すると40.70%までエネルギー消費を減らすことが可能、という結果が示された。
2)ワーク・スティーリング・エナジーアウェアなスケジューリング
ワーク・スティーリングの基礎に基づき、特定の二つのスケジューリングポリシーが提案された。一つはDWS・タスク・スケジューラで、それによリワーク・スティーリング・プログラムは、コア上のリアルタイムな要求に従ったコアを使用する。二つ目はEEWA・タスク・スケジューラで、それはワークロード・アウェア・フリークエンシー・アジャスター及びプリファランス・ベースド・タスク・スティーリング・スケジューラから成っている。我々の実験ではDWS及びEEWAタスク・スケジューラにより、32.3%のパフォーマンス向上と29.8%の省エネとが達成可能であった。
3)ハイブリッド・システム最適化
CPU-GPUハイブリッド・システムにおいて、CPU-GPU間のワークロードを手動で分割し割り当てるのは大変なことである。なぜならGPUのパフォーマンスは受け取るワークロードに対して高感度だからである。この間題解決のための提案が、コ・スケジューリング・ストラテジー・ベースド・オン・アシンプトティック・プロファイリング(CAP)である。CAPはCPUとGPUに対し、わずかな同期だけでワークロードを動的に分割し、割り当てを行う。我々は6つのベンチマークでこの概念実証のシステムを検証し、評価結果では42.7%までのパフォーマンスの向上が見られた。
要約すれば、2年度目も研究年度計画が達成されたということになる。私は今後も、多様及び多数のコアシステムについてのプログラミングモデルと環境の研究を継続し、ビッグデータ分野にもこの研究を拡大させていくつもりである。JSPSの特別研究員制度はその基礎を提供してくれた。

理由

Based on the last year accomplishment, I continued exploring the improved solutions to challenges proposed in the research plan. 2 SCI-indexed journal papers and 3 IEEE/ACM conference paper are published.

今後の研究の推進方策

After my JSPS research fellowship, I will continue the research on programming model and runtime environment focusing on BigData processing scenario. In the BigData field, although MapReduce programming/execution model is very popular, it can not solve all problem-it is too simple to solve the more and more practical problem. Besides, right now, how to leverage the hybrid system to improve the BigData process performance is still a challenge. My JSPS research fellowship work has offered very initial and tentative solutions to BigData processing. It is believed that more achievements can be gained during my future work on BigData field.
