重力波研究の新しい展開

研究概要	領域全体としては、2つの主課題であるTAMA300の観測とLCGTに向けたR&Dを始めとして、着実な進展が見られた。三鷹のTAMA300重力波検出器は、重力波検出をめざし、米LIGO検出器との間で長期同時観測を実施中である。また、地殻変動などの研究を行い、重力波検出器の予備的なデータを提供するために、神岡鉱山内に地球物理観測用の100mレーザー干渉計を建設した。その他、LCGTのための低温技術や低周波防振系TAMA SASの開発が進んだ。 2003年2月6-7日に東大宇宙線研で総括班主催の第3回TAMAシンポジウムを開催した。これにはアメリカからLIGOプロジェクトの研究者も参加し、相互の技術情報交換と共同観測上の問題点などが話し合われた。また、7日には総括班会議を開き、外部評価委員を含めて現状報告や今後の課題について討議した。また、2002年12月17-19日には総括班後援で、京都の国際高等研究所で第7回重力波データ解析国際ワークショップが開かれ、120名(海外から80名)が参加者して活発な議論が行われた。総括班では、月1回の運営委員会と技術検討会を開催している。また、特定領域のホームページを開設し、研究状況や会議の情報を広く公開している。TAMA共同研究者の数は現在80名近くになるが、今後も特定領域を中心とした有機的な組織の中で重力波研究を展開していく方針である。
