シロアリ類の創巣期コロニーにおける個体間相互作用

研究概要	タカサゴシロアリ、タイワンキノコシロアリ、コウシュンシロアリおよびオオズアリを得るために、4月中旬と5月下旬に沖縄県の石垣島および沖縄本島において採集を行った。また、オオシロアリを得るために、5月中旬に鹿児島県の屋久島へ採集に出かけた。さらに、社会性昆虫の研究連絡を行うためワシントン州立大学のLaura S.Corley助教授を7月17日から8月5日にかけて招聘して研究交流を行った。8月上旬には福岡市で開催されたシンポジュームで研究発表を行た。実験室での研究は下記の6項目にわたって行った。(1)オオシロアリとタカサゴシロアリを材料にして、それらの幼虫に幼若ホルモンを経口的に与えると、前兵蟻を経て兵蟻へと変化していく過程を利用して、それらの遺伝子をデファレンシャル・デスプレー法で調べた。また、兵隊の除去、追加などの操作により、兵隊の存在が、他の個体の兵隊への分化を抑制しているかどうかを検証した。(2)コウシュンシロアリは、飼育下で比較的容易に擬職蟻からニンフを経て有翅虫をつくることができる。そこで、コロニーの生息条件をさまざまに変えて、それがどのように有翅虫分化に影響するかを研究した。(3)クチキゴキブリ類では、親成虫から子虫への世話行動を観察した。(4)オオシロアリ類を材料に用いて、腸内容物、ペリットなどの化学分析を行い、この栄養提供の意義を検証した。(5)キノコシロアリを材料に用いて、成虫が自らの体に蓄えてある栄養物質を経口で子虫たちに与える様子、反対にワーカーたちが成虫に給餌する様子を調べた。(6)キノコシロアリでは、単雌多雄、多雌単雄、多雌多雄などの様々な組み合わせの創巣期コロニーも知られている。そこで、実験室においてそれらの組み合わせによる子供の生産効率を調べた。そしてコロニー発達における雌雄バランスの意義を考察した。なお、一連の研究成果は英語論文として6つの国際誌に発表した。最終年次なので、一連の研究成果を報告書冊子としてまとめた。
