導管水同位体解析から評価した天水田イネの水資源獲得様式

研究概要	天水田に依存した作物生産の低収量・不安定要因は、ほとんどが水の問題に起因する。特に、不透水土である硬盤層の存在が下層から作土への連続した水移動に大きな抵抗を示し、硬盤層の下層土壌が比較的高い水分を保持しているにもかかわらず、乾期に作土層が著しく乾燥する現象が知られている。本研究は、硬盤層下層に存在する水分の獲得能に優れる作物個体・系統をフィールドで探索するための方法論を確立すること、そして下層に存在する水分の獲得能を発揮させるための作物の形態的・生理的基盤に関する知見を得ることを目的とする。ザンビアにおける調査では、地下水と降水の水素同位体自然存在比(δD値)を解析した結果、地下水のδD値は季節変動がなくほぼ一定の値で推移するのに対して、降水のδD値は大きな変動を示すことを確かめた。さらに、栽培作物から導管水を採取してδD値を解析した結果、導管水δD値の変動には降水の影響が認められる一方で、作物体が降水だけでなく地下水も吸収していること、しかも個体によって地下水に対する依存度が異なることを明らかにした。この結果は、作物導管水のδD値を周辺の環境水のδD値と比較することで、その個体の深層水利用能を評価できることを示唆する。バングラデッシュ北西部Rajshahiにある天水田において、硬盤層上層および下層からそれぞれ水サンプルを採取した。各サンプルのδD値を解析したところ、硬盤層上層と下層とではδD値が有意に異なることを初めて確認できた。さらに、乾燥が進行するにつれて、硬盤層上層では土壌含水比が著しく低下するのに対して、硬盤層下層における土壌含水比はほとんど変化していなかった。これらの結果は、土壌中の水移動に対して硬盤層が大きな抵抗因子として作用すること、その抵抗がδD値の変動をもたらすことを意味し、作物導管水のδD値解析を適用可能であることを示唆する。
