無機・有機反応における同位体分別機構の解明とその生命地球科学への応用

研究概要	本研究の目的は、地球化学試料中の遷移金属にみられる同位体分別がどのような機構あるいは反応経路(特に生体活動が関与していると考えられている同位体分別機構)に基づくものなのか理解する点にある。この研究目的のために、まず本年度は、生命の関与しない、いわゆる無機的反応における同位体分別係数を、実験的手法に基いて正確に決定した。分析対象元素としては、生体必須元素である銅と亜鉛をとりあげた。これらの元素は、従来の質量分析法では、精密同位体分析が困難であったが、本研究ではプラズマイオン源質量分析法(ICPMS、東工大既有設備)を用いることにより、従来の1/10〜1/200以下の分析元素量(数オg)において、研究遂行上十分な同位体分析精度(0.01%以下)が得られ、同位体分別係数(Kex)を決定することができた(昨年12月のアメリカ地球物理学会で発表)。この研究を進める上で、IUPAC(国際純正および応用化学連合)が推奨する亜鉛同位体組成データに系統的な誤差があることも明らかとなった。また、生物誘起起源鉄鉱床(BIM)の鉄同位体分析についてもデータ取得を進め、鉄同位体比変動が、群馬鉄鉱床のGoethite相に普遍的に存在することや、Goethite相とJarosite相が混在する場所では、同位体比の変動幅が異なることも明らかとなった。現在のところ、同位体比変動の原因は特定できていないが、天然の試料において、鉄の同位体組成が‰オーダーで変動していることが、決して特異的な例でないことを示唆できたと考えている(論文投稿中)。平成14年度に計画している有機的反応における同位体分別実験において、銅、亜鉛とともに、鉄についても実験を行う予定である。
