立方晶安定化ジルコニアの照射下構造安定性:選択的はじき出し損傷と蓄積電荷の効果

研究概要

本研究では、立方晶安定化ジルコニア(YSZ)中の照射欠陥集合体の形成・成長過程を調べ、イオン結晶中の点欠陥の離合集散過程に及ぼす選択的はじき出し損傷と蓄積電荷の効果について検討した。100keV He^+、300keV O^+または4keV Ar^+イオンを照射したYSZ試料に高強度電子線を照射すると、非常に強い歪みコントラストを有する特異な欠陥集合体が形成される。この欠陥集合体形成はイオンのみを照射したときには観察されず、電子線照射に特有な現象である。さらに特徴的な現象として、この欠陥集合体は臨界直径(約1.0-1.5μm)に到達すると転位線へと変遷する。継続した電子照射を行なうと、同様な欠陥集合体の核形成、成長、および転位線への変遷過程が、照射欠陥や転位近傍などひずみ場を有する場所で優先的に生じた。この欠陥集合体について、申請者らは酸素イオンの板状集合体である可能性が最も高いと結論した。すなわち、酸素イオンの選択的はじき出し損傷により生成した酸素イオン格子間原子が集合したものであると考察した。選択的はじき出し損傷の機構に関する検討も行い、弾性的はじき出し損傷に加えて非弾性的はじき出し損傷(すなわち、電子励起に伴うはじき出し損傷)の可能性も考慮する必要があることがわかった。しかしながら現時点では、いずれに機構が支配的であるかは結論できていない。いずれの機構に従うにしても、本研究は安定化ジルコニアの点欠陥挙動において、酸素イオンの選択的はじき出し損傷の重要性を実験的に示した最初の研究である。この成果は、ジルコニアのような構成元素の質量が大きく異なる結晶、および/あるいはイオン性の強い結晶の照射損傷過程の理解に重要な指針を与える。
酸素イオンの集合、すなわち同種のイオンの集合は電荷の蓄積を伴う。本研究では、蓄積電荷が欠陥集合体周辺に付加的な応力・ひずみ場を誘起すること、またその応力場は転位を生成するに十分なものになりうることを計算機実験により示した。つまり、実験により観察された臨界直径での転位への変遷は、転位形成によるひずみの開放によることを示唆している。
