As I had mentioned in my previous progress report FY2014, based on my training in wilderness based therapy at the School of Lost Borders, I had begun working with partners from the NGO Natural Justice in South Africa to run a healing and transformation process for all the 30 Khoi-San leaders who are represented by the umbrella political body- The National Khoisan Council. The process took place in March 2015. Soon after this, I also ran a one-day workshop on Access and Benefit Sharing with the Khoisan leaders in preparation for their negotiations with the company. The negotiations proceeded well and resulted in a successful access and benefit sharing agreement with the company for the use of Khoisan traditional knowledge. I returned to Japan thereafter and spent the next three months untill June 2015 writing a working paper documenting the results of my two years of post-doctoral research. This working paper has been peer reviewed and will be published and was also presented in August 2016 my final presentation. The purpose of my research and research plan was to achieve a clear understanding of the transformative power of Nature based therapies and cultural resources to assist indigenous communities like the Khoi San- especially in the context of developing and sustaining their community protocols and access and benefit sharing agreements. My research findings based on the data generated shows that these therapies work positively.
