研究概要	本研究の主目的は銀河のダークマターが暗天体であるかどうかという疑問に解答を与え、重力レンズ法で太陽系外地球型惑星を始めて検出することにある。手法としての大きな特徴は、今まで誰も手がけていない、星が密集した銀河中心領域と大小マゼラン雲中の5000万個の星を毎晩連続測光して、その明るさをモニターする点にある。重力レンズ法とは、明るい星の前面を暗天体が通過したとき、暗天体の有する重力場で、後方の明るい星の光が曲げられ、暗天体がレンズのような役割をすることを利用して、暗天体の存在を検出する方法である。このような暗天体の候補としては、褐色矮星や、宇宙初期にできたブラックホールが含まれる。今年度は本科研費を利用して、口径1.8mの国産で最大級の天体望遠鏡を製作し、8kX10kの大面積CCDカメラを製作した。望遠鏡は、京都の西村製作所により、完成した。CCDカメラは、すべての部品が名大にそろい、あとは高価なCCD chipを損傷無く取り付ける段階になっている。望遠鏡の光軸合わせが終了し、カメラが無事完成すれば、直ちにNZに輸送して現地で望遠鏡の組み立て再調整作業をする予定である。現在12月1日をファーストライトの日として設定して準備を進めている。本望遠鏡から、新しい知見が得られることが期待される。一方旧来からの60cm望遠鏡を、利用した観測も同時に進められでおり、2種類の新しい発見がなされた。一つは太陽系外惑星が起こす惑星食が、52例発見された。この例は光干渉計による追観測が可能で、必ず詳しい様相がわかるものと期待される。もう一つの例は、我々が求めている、惑星の重力レンズによって引き起こされた、典型的なイベントがついに発見されたのである。新しい望遠鏡では10倍多くの星をモニターすることになるので、10倍このようなおもしろい現象が発見できるはずであるという我々の予想を裏付ける結果が得られた。
