1.地中レーダ信号には地表面粗さと地中に含まれる砂礫などに起因する媒質不均質性によるクラッタが含まれる。本研究では、アンテナアレイとCMP手法を応用し、地雷からの反射波が有する空間相関性を利用したクラッタ抑圧アルゴリズムの開発と高精度イメージング技術を開発した。2.地雷検知では金属破片が地雷と同時に検知され、地雷だけを認識するための方法が強く求められている。本研究ではレーダ波の時間-周波数解析に対して特異値分解を適用し、固有ベクトルから反射体の特徴を抽出する方法を提案した。3.地雷検知作業はセンサが地表面に接触することで地雷を誘爆する恐れがあり、センサの小型軽量化が効率的な検知につながる。本研究では軽量・小型で電気的に受動素子である光電界センサを利用し、バイスタティック型のレーダを構成することを提案した。4.地雷識別の新たな手法として、レーダポーラリメトリの応用を検討した。任意の偏波組み合わせを測定可能な地中レーダシステムを実現するために各種のアンテナの開発と評価実験を行った。ポーラリメトリの利用は地雷検知にとどまらず、ポーラリメトリック・ボアホールレーダを用いた地下き裂性状評価などへも応用を試みた。5.本科研費ならびにJSTプロジェクトとして開発を行った金属探知器と地中レーダの複合センサALISは2004年度末には初期プロトタイプが完成し、その後も引き続きシステムの改良が行われた。この間、2004年にアフガニスタン、2005年にエジプト、2006年にクロアチア、カンボジアで評価試験を実施した。開発したシステムは当初予定通りの検知性能を発揮した。システムのうち、特にレーダ取得波形から3次元構造を再構成するマイグレーションアルゴリズム、ならびに3次元データから地雷を自動的に検知するためのアルゴリズムを本研究で開発した。
