4年間の研究調査機関で、1)カナダおよびグリーンランド政府の先住民メディア政策の歴史と現状に関する調査を行った、2)同国およびヨーロッパ7ヶ国の博物館・美術館展示におけるかつての植民で支配されていた先住民の表象に関する比較研究を実施した、3)映画、ビデオなどの媒体による過去の先住民の表象と、先住民自ら制作している映像に関する比較研究によって、古いステレオタイプが改められている一方で、先住民が提示するステレオタイプがあることを明らかにした、4)極北のイヌイト村でのテレビ、ラジオ、電話というメディアの利用に関する調査研究の成果として、そうしたメディアには社会的な役割が認められた、5)北アメリカ先住民文学について、資料収集および作家のインタビューを行ない、新しい動向を探った。以上の調査を通じて、先住民メディアにおいては文字媒体が低調になりつつある一方、インターネットやハンディキャム(ビデオ・カメラ)による電子媒体を通じて自らを表象する傾向が顕著になっていることが明らかになった。また、博物館・美術館学の視点からではなく、メディアとして調査した新しい試みを実施した。その視点から調査した結果、先住民の表象は、植民地史のあり方によって大きく異なっていることがわかった。
