フェムト秒近赤外分光による芳香族高分子中の非局在化カチオン状態の時間発展の研究

研究概要

側鎖に大きな芳香族基を持つビニルポリマーは、側鎖芳香族基間のホールマイグレーション(電荷シフト反応)によって光電性を示す。我々は、レーザー光の偏光特性と短時間パルス性を利用した過渡吸収二色性の測定を行い、(a)側鎖間の電荷シフト反応は、(サブナノ秒)^<-1>から(ナノ秒)^<-1>程度の速度定数で進行し、電子移動理論から予測される値の10^3から10^9倍と非常に大きいこと、また、(b)この速度定数は活性化エネルギーをほとんど必要としない(溶液中で<<1〜2kcal/mol、固体系では室温から77Kまで速度定数は変化しない)ことを示した。しかし、電荷分離直後のイオン対が対間距離を増大させる過程(A^-D^+D→A^-DD^+)はクーロン引力に逆らう吸熱過程であり、初期電荷シフト反応に対し見積もられるエネルギー差は、中極性媒体中でも数十Kcal/molと大きく、(a)、(b)の結果は全く説明が付かない。この実験結果(a)(b)の解釈のために、芳香族基にカチオンが非極在化したときに現れる近赤外部の電荷共鳴帯の吸収スペクトルの精度良い測定や、カチオン吸収二色性の絶対量の時間発展を検討し、相互作用、非局在化の時間発展、それを支配する因子について検討した。その結果、電荷分離直後にいくつかの芳香族基に非局在化したカチオン状態が3-5psの時定数生成し、非局在化カチオンとして振る舞うことによって対間距離を実質的に伸ばしクーロン引力を軽減し、かつ電子移動反応における再配向エネルギーの低下を引き起こすと考えられる結論を得た。このような非局在化の過程により生成したカチオン状態の平均サイズが、従来のOnsagerモデルで考えられてきた熱化距離と対応することを提案した。
