固体地球・惑星物質データベースの収集利用システムの研究

研究概要	本研究は、既存の「固体惑星地球物質データベース」について、最近発展の著しい情報処理機器とソフトウェアをより有効に利用するとともに、特に固体惑星物質の写真画像、元素分布画像など、大容量のデジタル情報を画像データベース化する有効な方法の確立を実際の隕石研究の過程で試みた。これまでの研究で、マイクロソフト社製のデータベースシステムAccess97で利用できるよう改造を行ったが、最新版へのアップグレード費用が高いので、月・小惑星探査で必要とされるこれら試料の反射スペクトルデータのデータベース化を行った。また、リコー社が開発したフリーの画像データベースソフトウェアの試用をも行い、画像を多く用いる出版物のデジタル編集では定評のあるQuark XPressの画像も利用できるようになった。上記の目的のためには、大容量のデータを収集、保存、加工、利用することが必要とされているので、今年は画像処理能力の高いコンピュータと大容量の画像データの保存、加工、相互利用できるUSB2.0対応のポータブルハードディスクを整え、実際に研究している月や火星からの隕石で砂漠から回収された試料につき、画像処理の最良の方法を追及した。上記の鉱物の化学組成データ、光学画像データを得るための隕石試料および岩石薄片を光学顕微鏡に取り付けたCCDカメラで撮影し保存するには、研究用には、CD-ROM化して一時的に保存するとともに、コンピュータ外付ハードディスクにデータベース化して保存するのが、実用的な方法として有効である。顕微鏡用のデジタルカメラの性能は、200Mbクラスのカメラでは焦点合わせに困難があるので、ネガフィルムよりコダック社のフォトCDとしてデジタル画像とする方法を確立した。次年度では、より多くのデータで実利用した時の問題点を抽出し、改良を重ねる予定である。
