研究概要	雄コオロギGryllus bimaculatusによる攻撃と求愛行動を対象として、次の2点を解明した。 (1)戦いに勝った雄コオロギが発するaggressive songはこの雄コオロギ自身の脳セロトニンレベルの低下を抑えることを発見した。これは、aggressive songが同種間のコミュニケーションの手段として用いられているだけでなく、生理状態にまで影響を及ぼすことを意味する。 (2)雄コオロギから触角を除去し、他の雄あるいは雌に対する行動を観察した。その結果、他の雄に対して攻撃行動を示さなくなり、代りに求愛行動を示すようになることを発見した。この結果から、雄間の攻撃行動の発現に対しては触角が必要であることと、触角除去は雄間の求愛行動、つまりhomosexualな行動の発現を誘起することを主張した。また、触角除去後、1週間のコオロギでは、雌に対する求愛行動の発現も低下した。従って、触角除去1週間後の雄では、sexual orientationがheterosexualからhomosexualへ変化しているのではないかと推論した。加えて、触角除去後1週間の雄では脳セロトニンレベルが低下し、この低下はcentral bodyと呼ばれている部位で顕著であることを発見した。これらの結果は、従来の報告と一致して、セロトニンンが攻撃や求愛に関与している可能性を示唆する。特に、哺乳類で示唆されているように、脳セロトニンレベルの低下はsexual orientationの異常を引き起こす可能性を示す。さらに、central bodyがこれらの行動に関与していることを示唆する。
