新生代後半のユーラシア大陸における化石霊長類の進化に関する総合的研究

研究概要	本研究では中新世〜鮮新世にかけてユーラシア大陸に存在した霊長類の進化に関して、地球規模の環境変動の枠組みの中でその分布がどの様に変化してきたかを探るものである。こういつたユーラシア大陸の化石霊長類が、霊長類全体の系統樹の中でどの様な位置を占め、どの様に地理的分布の変遷をたどってきたかを明らかにすることにより、ユーラシア大陸の環境変動をも明らかにしようと考えている。過去数千万年に渡る環境変動の中で、いかにして生物たちが絶滅あるいは生存してきたかを解明することは、これからの地球環境の変動に伴う動物たちの進化の行く末を予測するものである。ユーラシア大陸北部のロシア及びその近隣諸国の鮮新世〜更新世の霊長類化石に関する情報収集のため、モスクワにあるロシア国立古生物学研究所のE.V.Maschenkoマシェンコ博士の研究室を訪問した。同研究室において、モンゴル北部のシャーマル地域とシベリア東部バイカル湖周辺の後期鮮新世の地層から見つかっているコロブス類の化石(Dolichopithecus)またはParapresbytis)、ウクライナ南部のオデッサ地域とモルドバの鮮新世?の地層から見つかっているコロブス類(DolichopithecusとMesopithecus)とマカク類(Macaoa?)の化石、そしてタジキスタン南部のクルク・サイ地域から見つかっているオナガザル類(Paradolichopithecusの化石の観察・計測をおこなった。またこれらの地域の地質学的情報や古生物学的情報を収集し、必要な文献のコピーを多数入手した。現在これらの情報と古気候学の文献を対照させて、ユーラシア大陸北部の鮮新世〜更新世にかけてのグローバルな気候変動の中で、どのように霊長類の分布が変化してきたかを検討している。
