| 研究実績の概要 |
During this academic year (2015/04-2016/03), We examined the police offences (ikeizai 違警罪) enforced in Taiwan during the first decade of the colonization, in comparison with the petty-misdemeanour ordinances (ishiki kaii jorei 違式違けい（言＋圭）条例) enforced in early Meiji Japan. We analyzed the formulation of the prohibitions in the cultural, political and historical context, as well as their evolution and actual effect. We also examined the bodily practices of Japanese and Taiwanese people around the turn of the century as well as their changes under the legal regulations. Lee Ju-ling made the research result of this year into three articles; one article is published in an international journal on December 2015, and the two others are submitted to two other international journals and are now under the examination. In addition to the above-achieved articles, Lee Ju-ling made two oral communications to present her work; one in The University of Tokyo and another in the Maison Franco-japonaise, with Japanese and international researchers as audience.

理由
The following is the comment by Lee Ju-ling and I agree with her judgement.
The progress of this research goes on good rhythm thanks to the comfortable working environment offered by the host Institute and the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Kakenhi) provided by JSPS. With the Kakenhi, I was able to purchase rare books in both Japanese and English that are not conserved in the libraries in Japan and can sometimes only be purchased through second-hand books sellers. These books are extremely important to my research project on the Meiji period. Kakenhi also allowed me to have one of my papers written in English checked by a professional English proofreading person, in order to be able to publish it on an international journal.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
We shall include in our approach a study of Japanese rule in Korea and in the Kwantung Leased Territory in order to explore further the examination
of the Japanese body within the empire. The Japanese authorities adopted regulations concerning the representation of the body in Korea as early as the late 1870s, in the Kwantung Leased Territory from 1905 and later in Manchukuo during the 1930-40s to domesticate the Japanese body. We have already started the research on Korea and Kwantung Leased Territory soon after Lee Ju-ling finished the articles on colonial Taiwan. Besides the archives of the Ministry of Foreign affairs of Japan, the National Archives of Korea is one of the main archives on colonial Korea. In Japan, besides several archives and university libraries in Tokyo, Kyoto University preserves as well a good number of sources on Manchukuo. To be able to have access to these documents are essential to this study and we shall plan several research trips to obtain the resources and complete the comparative research with the case of colonial Taiwan.
