研究実績の概要 |
My research focuses on sedimentation countermeasures in general and sediment bypass tunnels (SBT) as an effective and ecologically favorable measure in particular. SBTs route the incoming sediments into the dam tailwater during floods. Main drawbacks of SBTs are the high investment and maintenance costs. The high invert abrasion caused by fast sediment-laden flows is the most challenging problem affecting all tunnels. To estimate the invert abrasion, a prediction model was developed in my PhD thesis. The model was compared to a Japanese prediction model widely applied in engineering practice by comparing existing data on Asahi dam SBT in Japan and Pfaffensprung and Solis dams SBT in Swiss. Based on this study, an updated prediction model was proposed and published.

現在までの達成度 (区分)
1: 当初の計画以上に進展している
理由
I have progressed more than originally planned by publishing several scientific papers. Furthermore, Asahi, Miwa, and Koshibu SBT were visited as expected and data collection and close collaboration with dam owners developed nicely.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the next fiscal year, I’d like to focus my research on tunnel abrasion management based on hydromechanics in a high speed flow velocity. Based on real abrasion pattern, how flow verocity profile will be disturbed and how much level will be accepted as an threshold value. For this study, hydraulic model test will be conducted and flow measurement will be implemented. Additionally, flow and sediment transport monitoring will be started at the Koshibu dam and I'll conduct data analysis on plate microphone sensor system. Finally, further tasks involve consulting of new SBT projects in Japan, support of new Bachelor and Master students and participation at International Congresses.
