研究概要	初年度の研究の柱は、InFOCuSの気球実験と、3年度以降の独自気球実験のための開発である。現在のスケジュールでは、InFOCuSの気球は2004年5月初旬に計画されており、そのため以下の開発を行った。 (1)多層膜レプリカ反射鏡の製作:高エネルギー側まで感度を伸ばした、新しい設計の多層膜を成膜、レプリカした反射鏡を、1000枚近く製作した。 (2)望遠鏡の組上げとX線特性試験:製作した反射鏡の内から、形状精度の良いもの500枚程を選び、1/4鏡を組上げた。これを、以前に製作してあった1/4鏡3台と合わせ、1台の望遠鏡を組上げた。これを、宇宙研のビームラインおよびSpring-8のビームラインで硬X線特性測定を行った。その結果、40keV以上ではこれまでより50%ほど多い有効面積が確認できた。完成したこの望遠鏡はすでに打上基地に向け発送された。 (3)気球搭載用治具等の準備:望遠鏡と焦点面検出器、気球の姿勢センサーの光軸を機上で一致させるために、インターフェース、アラインメント用の反射鏡、カメラを開発した。将来の観測の為の開発では、望遠鏡自身の開発、ゴンドラ/トラス構造の試作、姿勢検出系/制御系の試作を進めた。反射鏡では、現状の望遠鏡の撮像性能の向上と、多層膜反射率向上の努力を続けている。また、保持するための機構にも工夫を凝らしている。トラス構造はCFRPの一体成形したものを組上げる方式を採用し、部材は完成した。ジャイロ式姿勢検出計を新たに購入し、自作したモメンタムホイールと合わせ、試作ゴンドラの姿勢制御のテストに成功した。全体としては、5月の気球実験に向け、ほぼ期待どおりの望遠鏡が準備でき、将来への開発も計画どおり進めることができたと言える。また、来年度製作する大型研磨機のための基礎的な実験、大まかな構想の検討を始めた。
