反水素原子の分光

研究概要

本研究は、ジュネーブのCERN研究所において、1.反水素原子の分光、2.反陽子ヘリウム原子の分光、の2つを高精度で行い、物質と反物質の対称性を高精度で検証する事を目指して推進している。
このうち反水素原子については、本年度以下の進展があった。
1.炭酸水素レーザーを用いることで、反陽子と陽電子の結合を促進し、反水素原子のレーザー分光が可能になることを理論的に示し、これに基づいて炭酸水素レーザー等の整備を行った。
2.反陽子と陽電子を混合して生成された反水素について、陽電子密度と温度を変化させた測定を行い、我々の反水素の多くの部分が放射再結合過程で生じていることを示した。
また、反陽子ヘリウム原子については、当初予想していなかった新たな展開があった。
すなわち、我々は本年度反陽子ヘリウムイオン(ヘリウム原子核+反陽子からなる二体系)の長寿命状態の生成に初めて成功し、この二体系のレーザー分光が原理的に可能である事を示したのである。
現在、反陽子と陽子の質量の最も高精度な比較は、反陽子ヘリウム原子のレーザー分光によって得られているが、この原子は三体系(ヘリウム原子核+反陽子+電子)であり、反陽子質量を決定するには、複雑な三体量子計算の結果を援用する必要がある。すなわち、三体計算の精度が質量比較の精度を決める大きな要因となっているのである。これに対し、反水素原子などの二体系では遥かに高精度で計算が可能であり、二体系のレーザー分光が可能になれば、反物質研究が飛躍的に進歩すると期待される。
反陽子ヘリウムイオンの分光には、紫外レーザー光が必要となるため、年度の後半には既存のレーザー装置の改造に着手した。
