多層膜望遠鏡気球観測による隠された硬X線天体の探索

研究概要

硬X線撮像観測により、強い吸収体に隠された活動的銀河核を探査するのが、本研究課題の目的である。
本年度の目標は、10-60keVの硬X線で集光結像する硬X線望遠鏡を開発して、米国NASAとの共同気球実験に備えることと、独自気球のためのシステム構築の準備にあった。
(1)多層膜スーパーミラー硬X線望遠鏡の開発
気球搭載に最適化したスーパーミラーのデザインの開発を進め、それに合わせた反射鏡の成膜を行った。これにより前回の気球実験で用いた多層膜より高いエネルギーで高い反射率を実現できた。これを実証するため、個々の反射鏡の測定実験に続き、組上げた望遠鏡を、高輝度光科学研究センターSPring-8(兵庫県三日月町)の硬X線ビームラインに持ち込み、測定を行った。その結果、30keVで1.3倍、50keVで1.6倍に向上していることが確認された。
これに続き、更に硬X線望遠鏡の開発を進め、2004年5月のInFOCuS第二回飛翔実験に向けて反射鏡の量産が進められた。その結果2004年3月には新しい1/4鏡が完成し、これまでの1/4鏡3台と組み合わせて特性測定をした上で、飛翔実験の行われる米国へ発送された。
(2)独自気球のシステム開発
構造系では、ゴンドラ部分の試作を行い、構造の問題点が明らかになった。8mの焦点距離を確保するための鏡筒の設計を行い、CFRPの成形を発注した。この他、ジャイロスコープなどの姿勢検出系、モーメンタムホイールなどの姿勢制御系を購入、特性測定を行った。
なお、本研究(基盤研究(s))は同じ研究代表者の特別推進研究「硬X線撮像観測による非熱的宇宙の研究」課題番号15001002に引き継がれることになった。
