研究概要

文化財の復元に相応しい絹糸を製作し実験的な復元をするために、現在日本で管理されている蚕から作られる絹糸の具体的な特徴について調査を行った。原材料の標本として原種とされる蚕品種(中国種:紹興、緋紅、漢口赫繭、諸桂、山東三眠、朝陽、日本種:桜姫、又昔、青熟、鬼縮)の飼育を行い、この繭から馬の尾の輪を取り付けた座繰り器を用い絹糸を製作した。
繊度、硬質セリシン量の測定、精練抵抗の大小について調査を行ったほか、糸繰りや精練に関する材料や技術についても考察を重ねた。また実際の資料の質、質感にこうした技術の結果がどのように反映されているのかを理解することを試みた。(結果は文化財保存修復学会第26〜29回大会で発表を行った。「文化財の復元材料としての絹糸の調査・その1〜その8」他)。
日本では明治初期を画期として製糸技術が変化するが、それ以前の資料に見られる糸の形状について興味深い観察結果が得られた。江戸時代の熨斗目小袖の裂や天保年間の黄八丈について言えば「熨斗目」は一般に生経練緯の組織で、従来文献資料の分析から舶載の絹糸を使用していることが指摘される。今回、それぞれ使用された糸の特徴を拡大して観察したところ、「熨斗目」には同時代の黄八丈にはあまり見られない抱合性のよい糸を引き揃えている状況が確認でき、製糸技術の異なることが観察結果からも裏付けられるのではないかと思われた。復元についてはセリシンの量や性質を経験からだけでなく、適切な分析によって把握できるのであれば、事前に蚕品種を特定して必要な性質を有した絹糸を選択することが可能であることが理解された。
同試料について、藁灰による精練と日本茜による染色を行い、発色や質感に違いが見られるかを確認した。この工程に関しては中世の鎧の威糸の復元を目指し、古代日本茜染研究所代表宮崎明子氏の協力を得た。特に質感と光沢の点で精練、染色による特徴が現れることが判明した。
また、日本の組紐技法の源流と発展を知る上で、不可欠な存在である中国戦国時代の出土組紐(江陵馬山一号楚墓他)の組織「〓」を実見し材料、技法発展の状況を観察した。
