赤方偏移5(宇宙年齢約10億年)における銀河の大規模系統探査を二天域において実施し、約600個以上の候補天体を発見した。これは世界最大規模のサンプルである。これを用いて以下のような結果を得た。まず、銀河の紫外光度関数の最高精度での導出を行った。この結果、赤方偏移3、4付近のそれと比べて、明るい側での進化はほとんど見られないが、暗い側で少し進化が見られることがわかった(i)。また、赤方偏移5付近での宇宙における平均的星形成率密度は赤方偏移3、4のそれより少し小さいものの、まだ活発な星形成を行っている時代であることを明らかにした。さらに、一部のサンプル銀河について紫外域でのスペクトルを得る事ができた。赤方偏移の確認と共に、これらの銀河におけるライマンα輝線強度がかなり弱いということがわかってきた。また、銀河中の金属による星間吸収線が強いこともわかった。これらの結果から、宇宙年齢10億年の時代でも一定の化学進化があった事が示唆される(ii)。又、輝線の等価幅は、紫外線の明るさに依存する可能性がでてきた(iii)。これは、ライマンα輝線天体がライマンブレイク銀河の暗いものの一部であることを示唆している。銀河の静止系における、紫外から可視域でのスペクトル分布を銀河進化スペクトルモデルと比較することによって、見つかった銀河の一部について、その年齢とダスト吸収量の評価を行った。また、明るいものには青いものが少ないという結果も得た(iv)。ライマンブレイク銀河の空間分布を調べた結果、その相関長は、より低赤方偏移でみられるそれより大きく、密度超過の大きな場所では早くから銀河形成が始まるというシナリオを支持する結果を得た。また、同じ赤方偏移5においても、明るい銀河ほど大きな相関長を示すことがわかった(v)。その他、X線源のカタログと相関をとり、新たに2ないし4の対応天体候補がみつかった。スタッキング解析も行ったが、有意な信号は得られなかった。以上の結果(i)-(v)等から、密度の高い場所において大きな銀河から形成が始まるという描像が示唆されることを示した。
