昆虫における行動補償と神経系の可塑性についての研究

研究概要	フタホシコオロギは腹部末端に1対存在する尾葉上の機械感覚毛で体の周囲の空気の動きを感じ取ることにより捕食者等の接近を知り、逃避行動を解発する。逃避の方向はほぼ刺激源と反対方向であることから、正確な空気流方向の認識がなされていることがわかる。片側の尾葉を除去すると逃避の方向が不正確になるが、約2週間で補償的な回復、すなわち正確な方向への逃避行動を示すようになる。しかしながら、自由に動けない拘束飼育では、そのような補償は生じない。このことから申請者は、このような行動補償には自身が動くことによって生じる残された尾葉感覚系への自己刺激が必要であること、またその際の運動出力のコピーシグナル、すなわちEfference copyが神経系の変化に必要であるという仮説を提唱してきた。これまで、そのようなEfference copyを担うと思われる介在神経が腹部神経索内に存在することを報告してきたが、今回それらの存在および情報のコード様式を再確認した(論文投稿中)。一方、Efference copyを用いての神経系の再構築が実際のものであるなら、最終的な補償の程度は回復期間中に経験した補正の回数、すなわち運動量(歩行距離)に比例すると考えられる。そこで、片側尾葉除去後のコオロギの回復期間中(14日間)の運動量をイメージセンサーを用いて測定した。単独飼育あるいは集団飼育と飼育条件を変えることによって、異なる運動量のコオロギを得ることができた。それらのコオロギの空気流刺激に対する逃避行動を調査したところ、補償的回復の程度は回復期間中の運動量と相関が見られた。また、人為的刺激(接触刺激)により強制的に運動量を増加させた場合でも、同様に逃避方向の補償的変化が見られた。これらの結果から、当初の仮説の正当性が行動学的に証明されたと考えられる。
