研究概要	受精は動物種に普遍的で重要な現象であるが、その分子メカズムにはいまだに不明な点が多い。受精の分子機構の解明は生命科学での学術的な発展への寄与のみならず、生殖医療(不妊治療や妊娠制御)、有用家畜の維持、さらには絶滅危機種の救済などの生殖科学の応用的な課題に取り組む上で重要である。本研究において、受精現象を通じて動物個体が獲得する生物学的全能性とその永続性、多様性と進化を支える分子メカニズムの全貌を解明する学術的な重要性を詳細に検討した。さらに、それらが社会に与えるインパクトと有用性を吟味して次世代の生殖科学研究の進展に向けた展望を得るとともに、その発展的応用技術の開発に向けた基盤作り(人的ネットワークの構築)をおこなった。海外での関連重要会議での情報収集:研究代表者(岩尾)他1名がゴードン研究会議「Fertilization and Activation of Development」(米国、ニューハンプシャー州、平成15年7月29日〜8月3日)に参加し、欧米諸国の主要な受精関連研究者との打ち合わせや情報交換を行い、基礎資料を得た。第1回全体打ち合わせ会議(平成15年10月25日、東京)では、各研究者の研究内容の紹介と熟知、役割分担の確認、調査日程の調整、活動内容の確定(各研究者の未発表データの発表方法、各学会における動向調査やシンポジウム等の企画の発案、人的ネットワーク確保のための活動、文献調査など)、などを行った。本研究の大きな目的である特定領域研究の調査をおこない、平成16年度発足予定の特定領域として「受精の分子メカニズム:その普遍性と多様性」の申請をおこなった。第2回全体打ち合わせ会議を兼ねた企画調査メンバーによる公開シンポジウム「受精の分子メカニズム-ヒトデからヒトへ-」(平成15年1月31日、横浜市)を行い、本研究の成果を広く学界、社会に広く公表した。
