研究実績の概要

In this year, we conducted a screening experiment using different food products (Manuka Honey, Rice Bran and Soy Bean) in the animal models that we have created in last year. Unfortunately, Manuka Honey and Soy Bean supplementation did not improve colitis. As such, we aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of Oryza sativa, rice bran (RB) dietary intervention on 2.0% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis C57BL/6J mice model. Body weight loss, disease activity index, colon length and colon histopathology were improved in RB-fed mice. Time-course microbiome and metabolome results suggest that RB-related alterations of gut environment can prevent colitis via establishing gut homeostasis. Our approach is an important tool in developing new therapeutic applications of RB.

理由

We have proven the rice bran supplementation can suppress colitis progression. In addition, we have also performed comprehensive metabolome and metagenome evaluation on the excised tissues and will publish our findings about the anti-colitic properties of rice bran in 2017.

今後の研究の推進方策

We will perform further animal experiment using a DSS-induced colitis mice model and an AOM-DSS-induced colon cancer model using different components of rice bran. In this manner, we can pin point out the specific componenets contributing to the anti-colitic and anti-carcinogenic properties of rice bran.
