| 研究実績の概要 |
The goal of the research is to evaluate water-related benefits in the context of urban environment and suggest new policy scenarios for the current situation with water pollution in urban waterbodies. The final output will be an analytical tool that would contribute to urban planning decisions in selected cities and that could be used in developing new sustainable policies.
During FY2015 (Sep 2015-Mar 2016) following components of the research have been completed: (1) Draft questionnaire has been finished. The questionnaire is the main tool of the planned Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). The CVM technique was chosen due to its well-fit to such situation and well-developed methodology; (2) Before conducting actual survey in a field there is a need to identify weaknesses of the questionnaire and modify it. Therefore, two workshops have been held (the first in Tokyo, the second in Metro Manila). There were 21 participants in first workshop and 25 participants in the second workshop; (3) Literature review has been partly finished. CVM analysis done in different countries with regard to environmental resources have been studied.
To fulfil above tasks Fellow spent funds in FY2015 for following purposes: (1) purchase of equipment, software, accessories, and books. Powerful computer to run econometric models and tablet for field surveys have been purchased among that equipment; (2) Funds have also been spent to conduct above-mentioned workshops, travels and conference participation in USA.

理由
Above self‐evaluation rating is due to fact that during FY2015 all necessary preparation for the field research has been initiated and almost completed. The study has clear objectives, framework and methodology. The study has local counterparts in Metro Manila, in addition government ministries and agencies that deal with water issues, water quality monitoring, control and regulation have been informed about the ongoing study. Generally, they are welcoming the study and waiting for its results to use them in their future policy‐making decision.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
Based on activity done in FY2015, literature review and recommendations from experienced scholars, it was decided to: Update questionnaire with regard to explanation of issues, reconsider stated scenarios of water quality improvement; reduce water quality scenarios; change enforcement agency and reduce the scope of planned sampling size due to big area of Metro Manila.
In FY2016 the Fellow will visit study area (Metro Manila, the Philippines) to additional collect socio‐economic and environmental data from government institutions and agencies; to conduct workshop for interviewers, and to conduct actual field survey. Also, the Fellow will meet international donor organizations' representatives that work actively in the sphere of urban water supply to get information on issues and development of the sphere. The Fellow will participate in a conference in USA to present preliminary results of the study. Also, round table on study goals, methods and expected output will be held in Japan. These events have objective of sharing information about the ongoing study and getting the feedback from interested stakeholders. Manuscripts will be sent for publications to the leading scientific journals in the research field.
