1. Completed data gathering: Members of the research team visited all four sites - Sitiung, Dharmasraya regency, West Sumatra; Tebo regency, Kumpeh and Sungai Bahar in Muaro Jambi regency, Jambi province - in September 2017 to interview village and sub-district officials and conduct drone-based visual surveys of all four sites. We also conducted semi-structured interviews of households to verify previous findings, and we met with ministry officials in Jakartas. 2. Processed and analyzed data: Data from 230 household surveys was input into Excel files for analysis. Charts and tables were generated for use in conference presentations and publications. 3. Sponsored two large-scale workshops in Indonesia and Japan: A conference on transmigration and rural development on March 1, 2018 was held in Bogor, Indonesia, with 120 participants, including 40 officials from the Ministry of Village, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration and other national ministries, faculty and students from Bogor Agricultural University, representatives of NGOs and others. On March 8, 2018, a concluding workshop was held at Kyoto University to disseminate findings in Japan. Presenters included research team members, including four local collaborators from Indonesia, as well as a 22-member delegation of local officials from Jambi province and faculty and graduate students from the University of Jambi, Sumatra, Indonesia.
