| 研究実績の概要 |
Three eye-tracking studies on relative clause processing in the Japanese language using native Japanese speakers were conducted. The first study was to replicate previous findings from past studies which used self-paced reading or ERP. The second study was to clarify if the initial ambiguity found in Japanese relative clauses could be attenuated. The third study investigated Japanese subject relative clauses and object relative clauses, both being free of ambiguity. The results of all three helped shed light on which processing effects (e.g., memory- or expectation-based) are operating when ambiguity is and is not present. Additionally, two papers on relative clause processing in Chinese and Korean were submitted for review. Abstracts on Japanese relative clauses were sent to conferences.

理由
The research conducted during H27 was conducted solely on native Japanese speakers. While the three studies provided substantial results on my research topic, one more experiment remains for Japanese speakers. Additionally, experiments are still necessary for native Chinese and native Korean speakers both in their L1 and in L2 Japanese.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
The future studies will complete Japanese relative clause processing by native Japanese speakers, primarily investigating the effects of expectation and memory resources as a factor of ambiguity. Additionally, identical experiments will be carried out in Mandarin Chinese and Korean. Lastly, L2 Japanese studies using native Chinese and Korean speakers will be conducted on Japanese relative clause processing. These combined experiments will help resolve whether there is a universal integration metric operating in working memory.
