研究実績の概要 |
In last year, the research orientation was focusing on the evaluation of the micro structures of randomly oriented carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic (rCFRTP) as well as the mechanical properties verification and the corresponding simulation methods. The research achievements were mainly separated into three parts. 1. The randomly oriented strands (ROS) made by water dispersed thin CF/PA6 prepreg tapes, which named UT-CTT (ultra-thin chopped carbon fiber tape reinforced thermoplastics) were manufactured with different tape lengths and different molding pressure to investigate the effect of structural properties on mechanical responses. Tensile and compressive behaviors of UT-CTT have been investigated by varying compression molding conditions (to study the effect of the molding pressure) and the tape length (to analyze the fiber length effect on the mechanical). 2. The internal geometry of UT-CTT was investigated using X-ray μCT. The two-scale fiber orientation distributions (orientation of the tapes and of the fibers inside the tapes), tape morphology, 3D structure and orientation misalignment were characterized using specialized image processing methodology. 3. Two different simulation approaches to calculate the tensile properties of UT-CTT were proposed. One method is the general homogenization Mori-Tanaka model, another one is the de-homogenization equivalent laminate method. To ensure the simulation accuracy, internal structural properties of the materials measured in the 2nd part were input to the simulation models.

理由
In 2015 financial year, the research implementation show better progressive status than the research plan I set during in the application stage. In last year, I not only spent four months visiting one of the most famous laboratory in the field of composites researches in the world, the composite materials group (CMG) in KU Leuven, Belgium, but also made one Japan conference presentation, three international conferences presentation and two invited presentations and won two award among these conferences. What is more, I also submitted two journal paper to the top journals in the field of composite materials, and another journal concerning about the collaboration research between the CMG group and me is under writing and will be submitted soon. Based on the achievements and activities I have accomplished last year, the current research status regarded have better progressive than the research plan.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The research outcomes and achievements in 2015 financial year provide a primary integrated solution to calculate the mechanical properties of rCFRTP with the consideration of the effect of internal geometries lead by reinforcement shapes as well as the molding conditions. In the next step, the applicability of the X-ray μCT method I provide will be evaluated statistically based on the experiments. On the other hand, to find the more efficient method for mechanical properties prediction of rCFRTP, the multi-scale FEM approach under the consideration of the multi-scale geometry effects of materials like UT-CTT will also be adopt and compare the availability with developed Mori-Tanaka model and equivalent laminate method.
