研究実績の概要 |
In 2017 fiscal year, the project “Neurocognitive basis of Japanese language as a second language” has been continuing as followings: ・The behavioral data obtained during fMRI experiment and fMRI data of 20 normal healthy subjects (age range 20-28 years) for each group of Vietnamese and Chinese native speakers have being analyzed. The behavioral data showed that there was no significant difference in the accuracy of task performance between the two groups which indicated that there is no significant difference in proficient level of Japanese language (L2) between two groups. Meanwhile,in fMRI data, the Chinese group showed significantly higher activation in the left parietal lobe, whereas the Vietnamese group showed greater activation in the left anterior superior temporal lobe. Our results may suggest that literacy skills of L1 are important determinants for L2 neural substrates. ・We’re now preparing the manuscript for the publication.

理由
Although the recruitment of Vietnamese and Chinese native speakers at high level of the Japanese language as proven by possessing N1 certificate of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) took longer time than we expected before starting this project, finally we could collect the enough number of subjects for statistical power of the analysis (20 subjects for each group).

- Analyze the collected fMRI data to finalize the brain activation pattern of Japanese language as a second language. - Summarize the data, write and publish a paper soon.

We're planning to submit this data for Society of Neuroscience Meeting. Furthermore, we will submit this data to a journal in the field.
