| 研究実績の概要 |
Quantitative survey results were presented at two international conferences. Data from 220 participants in short-term English language programs in Expanding Circle Asian countries and in Inner Circle countries were analyzed for descriptive statistics and correlational statistics of nonlinguistic factors such as intercultural competence, speaking confidence, and possible L2 selves. Preliminary results indicate a strong relationship among perceived self-competence, approach-avoid tendencies, and Ideal L2 Self, as well as moderate relationships among speaking anxiety, ethnocentric tendencies, and Ought-to L2 Self. Interviews with selected individual students were conducted. Classroom observations and interviews with study abroad staff were conducted in one short-term Inner Circle location.

理由
It has proven difficult to obtain both pre- and post- study abroad program questionnaires for long-term students who travel individually. Many requests for interviews were declined. Little progress has been made on obtaining permission to interview staff overseas in certain study abroad programs.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
Qualitative data collected from interviews will be transcribed and analyzed. Further interviews will be conducted with students, faculty, and staff. Existing long-term program quantitative data will be analyzed and compared to data obtained from short-term program student questionnaires. Preliminary qualitative data results will be presented at one or more international conferences. Data compiled will be triangulated and further analyzed, and preparation will begin to interpret results for publication in book or journal articles.

Interviews overseas only occurred in one location. Travel was not as necessary as expected.

Funds unused from last year will be used to travel overseas for interviews and/or for expenses incurred for presenting interview results at international conferences.
