| 研究実績の概要 |
During 2016, significant progress was made especially regarding: (1) the investigation of the archival and historical materials relevant to understanding the American Occupation era (1945 to 1972) employment contexts and conditions of the Filipino musicians who performed at on-base venues; (2) the investigation of the archival and historical materials relevant to understanding the American Occupation era employment contexts and conditions and the performance experiences of Okinawa female jazz performers; (3) the post-Occupation continuities and disjunctures in the experiences of both Okinawan and Filipino jazz musicians.
In addition, participant observation of jazz music related events and interviews with both Filipino musicians still in Okinawa and with local Okinawan female performers were conducted which helped to deepen the investigators understandings of the American Occupation, jazz-era Filipino and Okinawa performers.
Finally, presentations of research findings were made at the Japan Studies Association meeting and at the Center for Okinawan Studies at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Interaction with scholars at both venues provided the investigators with the opportunity both to share their research findings and to receive questions for further consideration.

理由
The investigators have been able to conduct ethnographic interviews with both Filipino and Okinawan musicians relevant to the research, to conduct needed archival research and to make presentations of preliminary research findings.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
During 2017, the final year of this three-year project, the investigators will conduct final, follow-up ethnographic and archival research and will attend relevant academic conferences in Japan and abroad in order to share their research findings and to further their understandings of comparative ethnographic and of relevant theoretical work.

The amount of \50,795 left over from 2016 is the outcome of having requested a pre-payment that one may only do in units of \100,000 and not having needed to spend the exact amount requested.

This money will be primarily used to purchase books and other materials related to the final year's research and in preparation for writing.
