研究実績の概要 |
The purpose of the research project is to theoretically investigate how the geographic concentration of industrial activity affects an economy’s prospects for economic development through accelerated productivity growth, within a globalized world economy that features increasing levels of economic integration between regions and nations. The first stage of the project has successfully developed a model of international trade and endogenous productivity growth that allows for an investigation of how improved economic integration affects market entry, productivity growth and national welfare levels, through adjustments in the geographic concentration of industry across countries. In addition, the model outlined above has been extended to include a discussion of the implications of international corporate tax differentials for market entry, productivity growth and national welfare. Lastly, the research project has created a new framework that allows for an investigation of the relationship between patterns of offshoring in innovation and manufacturing and fully endogenous productivity growth that is not biased by scale effects.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The research project members will continue to present and refine the research results that have been developed over the last year. In addition, the research project will move into its second stage through the application of the theoretical framework introduced during the first stage of the research project to an investigation of the conditions required for convergence in firm-level productivity across countries, when the low-tech (low productivity) firms of developing countries and the high-tech (high productivity) firms of developed countries are free to relocate production activities internationally.

次年度使用額の使用計画 |
During the second stage of the project, one project member will be located in Paris, France, while the other member will be located in Kobe, Japan. Given the distance between project members, the funds will be used to purchase the Adobe Connect Service, in order to facilitate frequent and productive meetings between project members through video meetings.
