研究実績の概要 |
This project involves analyses of large, macroeconomic and trade databases in assessing the effects of trade-induced technology imitation on economic growth for African countries. During this first year of funding, logistic infrastructure (e.g., computer, econometrics software, etc…) needed for the project has been put into place, subscription to the required databases (e.g., IMF’s CD-ROMs and the UN’s COMTRADE) have been completed, and the necessary arrangements with experts has been finalized to assure that the needed interdisciplinary interactions are taking place. In addition, the comprehension literature review has been completed and the initial data collection has started. Overall, the research project has made substantial progress and one paper has been completed, presented to the International Conference of Finance and Economic held in August 2015 in London, and published (Assessing the Effects of Trade-induced Technology Imitation on Economic Growth in Africa"; Procedia Economics and Finance, 2015, pp. 543-549). Two other papers have been drafted and submitted for presentation, respectively, to the Western Economic Association 2016 Conference to be held in Portland (Oregon) and to the World Bank’s 2016 ABCDE in Washington, D.C, in June.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
During the 2016 fiscal year we will complete the data collection and transformation, hire a research assistant and pursue data analysis using the standard GMM-Panel method. Later on, we are planning to shift the data analysis to the advanced econometrics methods (e.g., nonlinear Threshold Panel estimation), as well as held a symposium with the participation of experts and industrial policymakers from Mauritius and India. We are also planning to actively disseminate the research outcomes at a broader audience at international conferences and publications.
