今後の研究の推進方策 |
Successful implementation of the goals planned for the FY2015 ensures that in FY2016 research will proceed towards the most challenging point of the entire research: obtaining experimental evidence that structural colour of artificial PhC structures can be modified by external IR irradiation. If IR sensitivity of the fabricated samples will prove to be insufficient, the following steps will be undertaken: 1. The photoresist will be doped with IR absorbers (organic dye, carbon nanotubes, quantum dots) to increase IR absorption. 2. If IR sensitivity of artificial PhCs will be too low for demonstration of functional devices, additional studies of physical mechanism of IR sensitivity in natural and artificial PhC samples will be conducted in order to identify the problem. Fabrication and characterization efforts will be repeated if necessary. 3. Immersion of the samples in various liquids, such as water, ethanol, isopropanol, and others, whose refractive index is strongly dependent on the temperature will be investigated. In this case, PhC structures become equivalent to diffractive optical elements (DOE) whose diffraction efficiency can be modified by IR irradiation. In such a case it is possible to realize IR micro-sensors with all-optical readout, providing similar functionality as that envisaged in the original goals of this research.
