The research purpose of this project during the final year was the synthesis of novel class of highly strained polyhedral clusters, pyramidanes, very attractive for both fundamental studies and material science.
In accord with the proposed plan, during this year we synthesized novel cationic pyramidanes with the apical heavier group 15 elements, as well as unprecedented neutral bis(housene)-type compounds. The structures of all newly synthesized clusters were studied by modern physico-chemical methods and computationally. Specific reactivity and potential applications of these compounds have also been investigated.
