Pump-Phase-Noise-Free Wavelength Conversion and Multicast for High-Order QAM Signals

研究実績の概要

In the first year of this project, we have successfully conducted several experiments to verify the tolerance against pump phase noise of our proposed wavelength conversion and multicast schemes for high-order QAM signals. Here we summarize our achievements as below.
1)Pump-phase-noise-free wavelength conversion, multicast:
We have experimentally demonstrated the pump-phase-noise-free wavelength multicast and multi-channel multicast of high-order QAM signals using coherent pumps. The experiments have been successfully demonstrated based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF), and also based on cascaded second-order nonlinear effect in Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate (PPLN). Moreover, we extend this coherent pumping idea to demonstrate the wavelength conversion of coherent optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (CO-OFDM) with tolerance against phase noise from pumps. The results have been published in top journal in the field like Optics Express and top conferences such as OFC and CLEO.
2)Logic operation of advanced modulation format and its multicast:
With the multi-carrier pump idea, we have proposed and experimentally demonstrated the logic operation such as XOR gate for phase-modulated advanced modulation format, BPSK. Meanwhile, it could achieve the multicast of logic operation result. The experiment was demonstrated based on FWM in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) with error-free operations. The research results have been published in top journal like Optics Express and also international conference ACP.

1: 当初の計画以上に進展している

理由

We have finished experimental demonstrates of pump-phase-noise-free wavelength conversion and multicast of high-order QAM signals and also CO-OFDM signals in the past year. Moreover, we have also extended our previous proposal to achieve the multi-channel multicast, and the application of multi-carrier pump in the logic operation and its multicast. All of the experimental results could verify our proposal. We have published the corresponding results in top international journal and conferences.

今後の研究の推進方策

From now, we will further develop our proposal to demonstrate the proposed pump-phase-noise-free wavelength conversion and multicast on different nonlinear platform such as quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifier (QD-SOA), and also try to demonstrate the phase-sensitive amplifier and its application in all-optical signal processing. The all-optical signal processing schemes will not be limited to wavelength conversion and multicast, but also format conversion or phase regeneration.

次年度使用額が生じた理由

当初、光学モジュールの調達を予定していたが、それにあたって、次年度予定している実験をも見越して仕様を策定するとより効果的な予算の執行が可能と見込まれたため。

次年度使用額の使用計画

次年度の予算と合算して、光学モジュール等の調達に充てる予定である。
