研究実績の概要 |
In the second year of this project, we have further developed the phase-noise-free wavelength conversion and multicast schemes for high-order modulation formats. Here we summarize the research achievement in the past year as below. 1)Pump-phase-noise-free wavelength conversion and multicast for multi-carrier high-order modulation formats: Last year we have experimentally demonstrated the phase-noise-free wavelength exchange, conversion and multicast for single-carrier high-order modulation formats, such as 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and 64-QAM signals. In this year, we extended it to the phase-noise-free wavelength conversion and multicast for multi-carrier high-order modulation formats, such as coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) with 16QAM modulations in subcarriers. Owing to the phase noise cancellation effect using coherent pumps, the common phase noise from pump could be effectively eliminated, showing high tolerance against the pump phase noise. The result has been published in top journal in the field, Optics Express.
2)Optical subcarrier processing using coherent pump for Nyquist subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) signals: We also have applied the coherent pumping scheme to process the subcarrier in SCM signals. It could be helpful to coherently combine two low-level subcarriers to high-order subcarrier in SCM signals. It will be helpful to provide flexibility in the granularity management in SCM systems.

理由
This year, the work has been smoothly extended to the phase-noise-free wavelength conversion and multicast for multi-carrier high-order modulation formats, not only limited to single-carrier formats. The experiment has been successfully demonstrated to verify the proposed scheme. Besides, we have tried to apply the coherent pumping scheme to the optical processing for subcarriers in SCM systems.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the following stage of the project, we will try to demonstrate the phase-noise-free processing scheme based on promising nonlinear platform, for example, quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifier (QD-SOA). Moreover, we will explore the application of coherent pumping in other processing schemes, such as phase-sensitive amplification.

Due to the long delivery time, some of components could not be delivered on time. So we decided to move the budget to the next fiscal year.

We will place order for the direct modulated laser, which has a lead time of around three months.
