We have now completed a comprehensive behavioral study comparing the impact of optogenetic stimulation and inhibition of SuM terminal fibers in the CA2 and the DG of the hippocampus. We find that activation of the CA2 pathway specifically impairs social behavior while stimulation of the DG pathway impairs spatial behavior. Further we have fos activation and anatomical mapping data demonstrating the SuM/CA2 and SuM/DG circuits are distinct in the cell type and activity. We have slice physiology data characterizing the local circuit affects of SuM terminal stimulation in hippocampal slice and currently are completing an vivo electrophysiological study under similar conditions in my lab. We plan to submit a comprehensive manuscript with all these data later this fiscal year.
