1) Editing "British Romanticism in Asia" volume (to go to publisher this year) and monograph on "Chained Islands" 2) Edited special issue of "Studies in Travel Writing" journal (Spring 2017) on travel writing and Japan 3) Presented at Romantic Legacies conference in Taiwan (November 18-19, 2016, National Chengchi University) and Liberlit Conference (February 20th, 2017, Tokyo Woman's Christian University), and undertook research trip to Oxford University 4) Organised (with Professor Masahiko Abe) an international conference on "The Wall of Japan" 5) Began planning for "Pacific Gateways", an international conference at University of Tokyo (24-25 November 2017) 6) Set up "Tokyo Humanities Project" (tokyohumanities.org), an online project to promote literature & humanities events in Tokyo.

理由
Projects are running smoothly: deadline should be met for the "British Romanticism in Asia" volume. A research trip to Oxford in March 2017 yielded important information for the monograph on "Chained Islands", which I am still writing. We have issued a "Call for Papers" for the Pacific Gateways conference: the deadline for proposals is in early May. I have been accepted to give a paper at the Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies conference in Toronto this October.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
I will complete the "British Romanticism in Asia" collection of essays and finish writing the "Chained Islands" monograph. I will organize an international conference at University of Tokyo titled "Pacific Gateways", which will be held in November 2017. I will use kaken funds for topics including purchasing essential supplies such as books and computer equipment, etc., inviting visiting speakers to campus, and attending international conferences.
