研究実績の概要 |
During AY2016 I continued to conduct a widespread review of literature from the areas of self and identity psychology, motivation psychology, language education and complex systems theory. I introduced classroom data-collection activities which had been piloted and refined in the previous year of the the research project. I also developed additional data-collection tools. I collected data from three different class groups about activities spread longitudinally across the academic year. I commenced ongoing data analysis using NVivo, reintroducing change-action activities based on initial understandings of the data. I presented tentative findings at various academic conferences within Japan. I submitted a proposal to present at an international conference in Barcelona, Spain, focusing on classroom action research. This proposal was accepted. I started writing research articles and have submitted a number for peer review. The first of these has been accepted for publication in late May 2017, whilst another has been accepted and is undergoing proofing.

理由
The data collection progressed very smoothly, but data-input from paper-based collection tools took longer than expected over the first semester. As a result, at the midpoint of the year, I changed the data collection for participant journals to an email format. This was a lot more efficient in collecting data and allowed a faster input to NVivo. One other factor that may change from the initially^proposed research plan is the open-access publishing of research articles. Open access fees are a lot more expensive than initially anticipated. In addition, I am currently exploring the feasibility of applying complex systems principles to understand the analysis as originally proposed. This may take a more watered-down position in initial publications and presentations than initially proposed.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Continue ongoing data analysis. Continue preparing research articles for publication in academic journals (continue to explore possibility of publishing open-access). Continue presentation of results at national and international academic conferences. Continue investigating the usefulness of incorporating a complex systems perspective to the analysis, which may require a re-analysis of certain areas of data.

Less expenses were incurred for miscellaneous items (stationery etc) than expected.
