| 研究実績の概要 |
This was the second year of this research project. I continued in research started in the previous year. I conducted an online survey in Mainland China with 587 respondents in December 2016. I compared its results with the ones obtained from the online survey conducted in Japan the previous year.
The preliminary analysis of collected data showed several interesting findings. For instance, the data show that similarly to Japanese respondents the Chinese consumers' attitudes towards the restrictions imposed on online downloads of music and other types of copyright works are less opposing those restrictions than their attitudes towards the restrictions on the use of tangible media. In addition, the collected data show that despite the massive infringing use of copyrighted works in China, the Chinese respondents oppose other types of restrictions on the use of copyrighted works, such as private copying, less than Japanese respondents. At the moment, I search for possible explanation of these findings.
I also conducted additional survey of literature and case law so that I could update my survey completed in the previous year for new developments in this field.
Finally, I published some of my earlier findings and presented them at the 5th Asia Pacific IP Forum held in Kanazawa on 18 and 19 March 2017.

理由
I achieved everything, what I planned for the 2016 year, with a few modifications which allowed me to deepen my research. In 2006 I conducted an online survey in Mainland China. Originally, I was thinking to conduct a survey in US and Germany, but at the end I had an opportunity to conduct a survey in Mainland China, which is considered as one of countries where copyrights are massively infringed. This does not mean any considerable change in my project, since I only postponed conducting of surveys in US and Germany for the next fiscal year. The adding of China will allow me to study cross-cultural differences in better perspective, since China is still emerging economy and faces considerable problems caused by disregard of intellectual property law. Accordingly, I will be able to study differences between China on the one side and developed countries with different cultures, such as Japan, US and Germany, on the other.
In addition, I updated my previous survey of literature and case law for new developments in this field, presented some of my earlier findings at an international conference and published them in English.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
The following steps will aim on finalizing the analysis of collected data from China so that I would be able to prepare them for presentation on scholarly workshops and for publication.
In addition, I will attempt to conduct additional online surveys at least in one of other selected foreign countries so that I would be able to compare the results from Japan and Mainland China with other countries with different economic, social and cultural environment. I think to conduct surveys in US or Germany. However, if there are any problems with conducting online surveys in those countries, I can reconsider to conduct surveys in other possible substitute countries, such UK or France. The main reason of selecting these countries is that each of them considerably differs in the ways of enforcing copyrights and in the success of those strategies.
As the next year is the final year of this project, based upon the conducted surveys, I will attempt to identify the conditions and factors, which are to be taken into account by legislators and courts to efficiently enforce copyright law against copyright infringers, and their importance, and impact on the efficiency of individual possible copyright protection measures in different economic, social and cultural environments.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
As I did not have enough funds for conducting the second online survey originally planned for the previous year, I decided to move a portion of funding to the next fiscal year so that I would have enough funds for conducting at least one online survey in that fiscal year.

The part carried to the next fiscal year will be used for conducting an online survey. As it is not any considerable amount, it will not be problem to spend it within that fiscal year.
