研究実績の概要 |
As the first attempt to implement a study on financial management in poor households in rural Cambodia, this research is expected to provide new insights into financial management by the poor. During FY2015, preparation for the construction of the database of financial diaries of the poor households was the main planned activity. Specifically, the survey framework and questionnaire designed took into account the survey framework of previous studies and the Cambodia Socio-Economic Survey published by Cambodia's Ministry of Planning. In the process of selecting a survey location, we visited the Department of Planning in Prey Veng for discussion and advice on the province's socio-economic condition. We also confirmed the location of communes which are within the objective and planned scope of our study. Then, the poverty profiles of all communes in Prey Veng obtained from the Department of Planning were scrutinized during the selection procedure and Ankor Sar commune in Mesang district was chosen. In this commune, the number of very poor households (defined as poor level 1 by Ministry of Planning) is 557. In February 2016, an initial survey was implemented on 120 randomly chosen from those 557 households. A database from this initial survey was constructed and a preliminary research paper based on the characteristics of the database is under construction. This initial survey is very important for understanding the economic and financial condition of the selected poor households.

理由
As mentioned in "Summary of Research Achievements," the planned activities during FY2015 were to design the survey framework and questionnaire and prepare for several rounds of the main survey during FY2016. However, exceeding this preparation, an initial survey to understand the socio-economic condition of the randomly-selected 120 poor households in Angkor Sar commune was conducted and a database based on this was also constructed. For this reason, it is evident that the current status of this research project is "Progressing More Smoothly than Initially Planned." This will help speed up the planned activities during FY2016.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
During FY2016, field surveys and interviews will be implemented and based on them a financial diaries database will be constructed. Slightly different from initially planned action, poor households in urban areas are now excluded from the survey due to the difficulty and feasibility of the survey. Hence, only rural area will be covered. The exclusion of the urban area will hardly affect the progress and the quality of this research. Since the economic condition and the financial management of the poor households in rural areas tend to be season-specific, a series of field surveys and interviews over months that cover both rainy and dry seasons will be conducted. After the surveys and interviews, the database will be constructed and also made available for the other researchers.
